Maori Signs and Symbols

Hi today I will be explaing what my symbols that I have drawn represent. 

The first symbol I will be explaing to you are the flags (the ones in the top left corner). The first flag represents tonga which represents a part of me because I am part tongan. The second is a Maori flag which represents one of the few ethnicities that I represent very proudly. These are two of my main ethnicities that I will always have in my bloodline. I am proud to call myself maori and tongan and I hope you have just as much pride for your ethnicities as I do.

The second symbol I have chosen to draw today is a family because it represents my siblings, parents etc. Of course I love my family and that is why have chosen to draw the outline of a family.

The third drawing I have chosen to do  is a peace sign and the yin and yang symbol. To me these symbols represent respecting each others differences and treating each other equally. The yin yang represents the ups and downs that I may go through but to always focus on the positive.

Last but not least I drew a heart to represent the love that I have for my friends and family. It also represents kindness and generosity that people have showed towards me and others.

Technology

Hi today I will be telling you about what we did during technology. we were talking about 2D and 3D, sketching and drawing and a lot of stuff to do with history and we even learnt how to write the whole alphabets letters by using a vertical rectangle. we learnt how to make 3D letters and how to draw our name with those 3D letters. we learnt names for shapes and the name they use for shapes that have more than 10 sides. For some people that don't know what polygon is it comes from Greek and poly means ''many'' and gon means ''angles''. A shape can only be a polygon if the sides are straight

and not curved for example.

Halloween task

Hi today I will be blogging about halloween. Halloween is a celebration that country's all around the world celebrate including New Zealand. What people do is they dress up in a costume, go walking around neighbourhoods, knock on the door and say trick or treat. Then the person at the door usually gives the children candy to eat when they are done going trick or treating. f you would like to learn more about halloween read this DLO with more information.

How to make Yogurt

Hi today I will be explaing step by step how to make yogurt with a easiyo yogurt maker equipment. If you haven't made yogurt with a easiyo machine before then this will be very useful for you today. Sadly after you do all these steps you will have to wait until the upcoming day for it to set but when it sets it is definitely delicious and can serve quite a lot of people. Technology Reflection

Hi today in technology we are finishing our comparisons and models. when we are finished we will be doing our final design drawings. I am still finishing off my work but I am hoping I get to finish a clock by the end of the term. Not only me but also Lizzy will be doing matching clocks and those matching clocks will be a compass. I can't wait for next week to see what the next step is to making our clocks. I will be posting more about our clocks next week so stay tuned. Have a great evening.

HI today I will be explaing to you how to play the game Hei tama, tu tama. Hei tama, tu tama is a new zealand indigenous game and this is how you play:

Actions: 1. Hands on hips

2.Both hands up, hands clenched

3. Left hand up, right hand on hip.

4.Right hand up, left hand on hip

Kupu/Words: Hei tama, tu tama! Tama ra!

1.Stand facing each other with hands on hips.

2. player one says, ''Hei tama, tu tama''(and choose on action)

3.Player 2 says, ''Hei tama, tu tama.'' (choose a different action). You are now ready to start.

4.Both players say.''Hei tama, tu tama''.(while changing actions at the sametime.

5.The winner is the first to notice if players are doing the same moves. And to win you have to say ''Hei tama, tu tama ra'' when you see that yous both are doing the same action.

Weekend Reflection

This weekend we didn't do that much and it was a pretty chill weekend. I've just been watching movies and playing with lego. We didn't go anywhere today because of the weather but we might go somewhere next week. School is tomorrow and I'm not sure what's going to happen. I'm excited to go back to school so I can see my friends and finish my maths art work. I hope you enjoy my reflection about my weekend and I will be trying to blog more tomorrow.

Mutorere Indigenous Game

Today we learnt how to play an indigenous game of New Zealand called Mutorere It is a brain game that makes you strategise and use logic to outwit your opponent. You will need 4 blocks, 2 players and 1 board to play on. What you have to do first is move your block in the middle of the board then the other player has to move theres and you have to keep going back and forth until someone is blocked in. But you can't jump over someone's block because thats cheating . The aim of the game is to trap your appointment so that they can not move. I personally enjoyed playing this game and I think you would enjoy this game as well if you tried it. It was a very hyped and energized game and everyone had fun and was very competitive. I hope you try this out and have a great time.

First blog post of the Term

Nau mai, Hoki Mai ki taku Rangitaiki, ko Tenei te wahanga tuawha o te tau! My personal goal for the last term of 2017 is?

One thing I am looking forward to this term is the year 7&8 sleepover in week 7 because it sounds like a fun activity to do with the pairs around us and it sounds like an activity that can help us get to know each other more and get to know teachers.

To fully enjoy these end of the year opportunities I will need to remember to have positive and growth mindset, Use manners, listen to teachers, Finish work & come to school ready to work/learn.

Hi today in technology we had two models to show as an example. The two models that I did was a smiley face and a poop emoji, this term in graphics a lot of people were drawing a poop emoji. Session 2 Reflection

HI yesterday me and my group went back to room 3 and it was the boys turn to show there half of the presentation that we all worked together to make, It was very fun and we got to work with a smaller class because room 4 went to the zoo. My favourite part was probably when Kanye was making an example and the kids kept laughing because of his examples and because of the teacher telling him he had to explain it more. Trust me it doesn't that entertaining but it was actually really funny and everybody was laughing.

Session 1 Reflection

Hi just a little reflection of when I went down to room 3 to teach both room 3 and 4 some Maori because it is Te Reo Maori language week with Lizzy, Huriata, MaryJane, Mahara, Kanye and Perenara. Lizzy started the karakia and it was very nice and then me and Maryjane started it off I was very nervous because it was our first session presenting but afterwards was actually really fine and I went around to help the kids with the paper that we planned for them. Learn my skills

HI today I will be sharing with you my DLO about the skill I would like to improve on and make good progress with. The skill I have chosen to work on today is Managing time, sometimes I can be very bad at managing my time and it can set me back it learning. Managing my time can be a big issue because at times I dont finish my work and teachers can't see if I understood or learnt anything while listening.

Today during technology we did an activity based on clocks. we had to describe what the picture of the clock looked like that we choose and write stuff like why our client would like this clock. What features the clock had and what kind of clock it was. This didn't take to much of our time because it was only a little activity. TOday I will be showing you my art work that I have done for tongan language week. As you might or might not know it is tongan language week and we as a class are going to present what we have done to show our learning for tongan language week. HI today I will be posting about my reading task that I finished, WHat we have to do is choose either a 2, 3 or 4 leveled school journal and then choose which story or poem you want to read and then choose weither you think its a narrative or recount etc. I read a poem and then I had to answer some questions to tell you about what I read, what I understand about this and even trying to make your own poem. Me

HI today I will be blogging about what I did in technology. Everyone has changed into there lasty technology group for the year and I'm in Graphics. We all made a google drawing to describe us and what we like etc. It was a very fun task to do and we even got to try and make ourselves on an avatar making site, It was kind of difficult for to do because not everything looked like us but the teacher said it doesn't need to look like you, it could just be what you think looks cool or funny etc. Here is my google drawing that we call me because it is about us(me).I hope you enjoy my google drawing.

My Dreams

WALT describe our two dreams.

Here is two of my dreams that I had when I was growing up. Another dream that I had was becoming a doctor because my mum would get sick very easily and be in pain and get medicine that did not relieve pain for her headaches that she would get very badly. So I thought if I became a doctor I could help others relieve pain from operations, mental health, anything really I just didn't want to see anybody suffer physical or mental health worries.

Here is my whakatauki that I tried my hardest to work on. The whakatauki this week was ''He iti hoki te mokoroa naha i kakati te kahikatea'' which means ''The mokoroa grub may be small but it cuts through the kahikatea tree''. I really liked the whakatauki this week because it really opened peoples eyes and made them think about there past and who they are now and how they became the person they are. Tom & Tia T3W3

Today we solved an algebra problem to calculate how much money would be spent and earned by two twins. Tom started with $20 and spent $2pd. Tia started with $0 and earned $2.50pd. I used a table to help me calculate the day tia would overlap tom with money.We made links to statistics and chose a line graph to show our thinking. You can see clearly, that by friday, Tia had more money than tom.

Sandwich Reflection

Thinkboard

Hi today I have finished my maths task which is called thinkboard.

Thinkboard is a really fun activity that you can do independently. The first step that I did was work out the answer to the equation which was 8 x 13, I found out that the answer was 104 by using groups of which are times tables. Then I took a picture of my diagram and put it in the text book. After that I explained how i solved it in a different text box then I put 10 similar questions in the last text box. Explanation writing practice

WALT practice our paragraphs for our explanation writing test.
We were writing paragraphs so that we could get our self ready for our writing test. I was in a group with cerenity, lizzy and aja. I had a lot of fun working with them because they were very encouraging when someone didn't get something. When everyone was finished writing their paragraphs we put it all together and made an explanation about developing manaakitanga. Hi today we have been learning about Taha Tinana, Taha Wairua, Taha Hinengaro and Taha whanau. We learnt to sort different ideas into their organised group. Today was my first time using screencastify and I basically explained what we have on our site, what to do on it and where to find different groups. I was very nervous using this app but I wasnt quite ready to use the webcam yet so I just recorded my voice. I found it weird because it was the first time I tried to use this, but i hope you enjoy it. My voice wasnt very good but I still tried to complete the video. Hi today I will be blogging about the documentary that we watched about a waka. But not just any waka, this waka has taken part in many events like traveling to several countries what also makes it special is it doesn't pollute our air like most boats do because it is powered by wind and sun. It is a very interesting and fact filled documentary and I would recommend people to watch it if you would love to learn about our ocean and about a special waka. WALT cook chinese fried chicken.

Here are photos of what me and my buddy Paris cooked at technology today.

Ingredients that we used were sweet chilly sauce, teriyaki sauce, pieces of chicken, sesame seeds and pepper. We had a few difficulties like when we were cooking our chicken the oil was spitting everywhere so we had to turn the heat down. Me and Paris got three pieces of chicken each and all the year 8's got the option to choose if we wanted sweet chilli sauce or not. We had fun making our chicken. I enjoyed my time at technology today and I feel really happy about how our chicken turned out for us. I really can not wait for our next session at technology. Pacific paradise follow up

Hi today I will be blogging about my PMIS chart that I have done. I didnt really know what I was doing at first so I asked someone for help. It was a good thing they were in my group and helped me complete my task. I dont really know what to think about this task but it was a very calm task that you could just maybe sit in a corner and do. I think its a good task to do so you can get better at showing depth in your work.

 Hi yesterday I did a solo current events about a cyclone making its way towards peoples home. This task is about being a deeper thinker and trying to break everything down into little detailed sentences and listing key points. It was really sad to read that people had to leave there property and go to a safer place but I hope that everyone is safe now and still alive. WALT describe what we did during technology.

Yesterday at technology I did cooking. Our teacher split the year 7 & 8s up onto different sides and we made different food. The year sevens made fried chicken strips and the year eights made mince filling for the pies that we were going to make next week. It was very fun working with my pair paris. We had a lot of fun making the filling for our pies and we cant wait for next week. We had to make a comic strip in te reo. The pictures arent perfect because we only had a bit of time to finish so we could move on. I enjoyed doing this task with my friends and it was fun writing my sentences. Today we are doing self management and everyone is finishing work that they haven't finished yet. Beware of weasels

WALT write an information report that informs the reader about a pest in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Did you know that weasels aren't as innocent as they seem ? Well yes they are killing machines Weasels are very dangerous to our environment, read on to find out more about this dangerous specie.

Weasels may look like a nice kind animal but you are wrong they can attack at any moment.

They are deadly with their dark eyes and sharp teeth just hunting for prey.

There appearance may fool you but once they show you who they really are they will become a nightmare.

Weasels are more of the silent type of animals. They like to creep up on their prey and bite then just go straight for it and get caught. It likes lots of shelter so it can have somewhere where they can sleep with either their family or by themselves.

Weasels eat Rats, Frogs, Birds and other animals like that. They are dangerous because they aren't just ay random animal. They can attack an animal bigger than them and win. They may look cute but looks can deceive you.

A fact about weasels is some specie fur changes colour in winter to blend in with the snow. Tips to reduce this pest is maybe getting a trap so that you can give them to a specialist.

Today I have made a poster about friendship tips that we learnt during attitude. attitude is a program that come around to talk to us year 7 & 8 just to talk to us about stuff like puberty, how to get friends, technology and stuff like that. Here is my Google drawing about a pests by the name of Weasel. They are very dangerous towards out native birds and kill them. We have been learning about pests for writing and I just wanted to share some information that I have been working on.

Mandala art

WALT write a detailed description about our Mandala art.

The purpose of this activity is trying to understand more about mandala art and trying to do more to investigate and discover facts about Mandala art.

In Mandala art all of the colours have meanings and that is why I have put my colours in order like this.

Techniques that I used to make my Mandala art is Just looking for shapes with a meaning that has something to do with Mandala art and just looking at the colors that might be mostly used. Also looking for a meaning for the colors was a great idea because it really helped me choose the colors.

Interesting facts about Mandala art.
-It comes from india.
-It is circles.
-You can do it with all different materials.
-There is always very small detail in the lines.

In the first layer the colors and shapes represent love and inner peace and is just giving everybody a really good vibe. The second layer going in the design is about sending positive vibes to everyone around you/us and making them feel welcome. The third layer is about being creative and caring for one another everyday. Last but not least the fourth layer is about everybody by putting a circle just to represent us and the world and just putting some crosses on the outside to represent god and the spiritual side of the world and just showing our ancestors and people we care about.

This could be an example if you would like to try and do Mandala art as well. Another example you could use is maybe on google you could try and look up step by step Mandala art and try and learnt from there. Mandala is a great way to relax and stay calm and maybe help you to meditate try and forget about your worries.

Google my maps/Te Taiao o Tamaki

Hi yesterday during cyber smarts my teacher miss Kyla taught us about google my maps. I t was a very cool experience getting to customize our very own map we have been doing work focused about Te Taiao o Tamaki. Yesterday afternoon we also started doing some art about our rivers and what you would find there like rocks, water, sea animals and trees. I worked on harakeke with some friends. The meaning of Harakeke is flaks. I enjoyed doing art and cant wait to finish it off. Hope you enjoy my little post just about what we've

This morning the year 7&8 went to tamaki college to our technology groups I am in group 2. We are doing cooking class, I was working with Alone and she is in room 9. It was a very good session today in cooking class. In cooking class today we made a delicious ham, cream, egg and cheese quiche. WALT find out how to use one times table to solve another different times table.

Today I have made a google drawing about times table. Me and my group tapawha got given a task on our site, it is about how to solve times tables. I really enjoyed doing this task because it was something that I had to think about but it was something that everyone could do because the teacher was great at explaining to us. I customized the google drawing a little bit just to give it some color and separated the colors between the answer and the question. SOLO current events

Hi today I am writing about a ASOLO current events I have just finished. I wrote about a recent truck crash on the southern motorway. The motorway was very slow today because of this accident. One of the trucks was carrying logs and the other was a freight truck. We have just started learning about SOLO and this is my second attempt at trying to do a SOLO current events so I hope you enjoy my work and leave me some feedback and feedforward for me.=)

Attitude Session Reflection

Hi today I am writing a blogpost about what we did in our attitude session with nate(the attitude teacher).
It was very interesting because we got to see what kind of personality we had, so what we had to do was go through these four categories which were Lion, Otter, Golden retriever and Beaver. In the categories there were long list and what we had to do was tick the box that we thought fit our personality. I was a mix between golden retriever and beaver. I enjoyed doing this activity because I got to know my friends more and I got to see what kind of personality my class and teacher had. My teacher was a mix between golden retriever and beaver as well. We had to split up and go to a table with everyone else in the same category as you. I dont know what we will be doing next session but I enjoyed this session and it was really fun playing heads or tails because everyone had fun and played.

Number of the week

Hi today in maths we were working on a task named number of the week. I enjoyed doing this because it was something that I did in another class and it brought back memories. I have done this task in other class rooms and with other teachers and I enjoyed doing this with my friends. If you are a teacher or just want to make something for your child you should. Its not to hard and it will help them figure out more about numbers and it helps just to keep playing it so they don't forget or just so they have something to do. Hi welcome to my blog today I will just be talking about things I have done since 2017 started. Well on the 1 of january we just had a little party with my brothers, cousins and other family. It was definitely a fun night and I enjoyed it. I stayed up until the next day because I wasnt really that tired. So far I haven't done that much just visit family and go shopping.
